Warning Signs of an Impacted Tooth

While you may not see any real signs of the emerging teeth when they are impacted, what you can’t see can still definitely hurt you. Here are a few indicators of impacted teeth.

The are several primary signs of impacted teeth. However, keep in mind that it is possible to not experience all these three signs together.

Jaw Pain

Pain in the back of your jaw is a common indicator, it will often concentrate in the area around your gums.

Changes in the Mouth

You may notice changes in your mouth; such as reddish or swollen gums, swelling in the jaw area, bleeding gums and bad breath can all be indicators that you are dealing with impacted teeth.

Headaches

If you are getting headaches at the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), the connecting joint between the jaw and the skull at the same time as some of the other issues mentioned above, they may indicate impacted teeth.

Chewing Issues

If you are having trouble making chewing motions because your mouth will not quite open and close as easily as it used to, this is good sign that an impacted tooth may be the culprit.

Sometimes, there are additional symptoms associated with impacted wisdom tooth. These include:

  • Bad taste in the mouth
  • Unpleasant breath
  • Swollen glands
  • Ongoing earaches

Unfortunately ignoring the signs and symptoms of impacted teeth can lead to more serious complications; such as development of cysts that can damage your nerves in the jaws. It is highly recommended that you visit your dentist immediately, as soon as you experience any of the above warning signs.

Impacted teeth can cause many complications, including irreversibly damaged nerves and necessary orthodontia, it is important that these warning signs be taken very seriously. Allowing the damage to continue without dental intervention can be very dangerous to overall health, so an appointment must be scheduled as soon as any of these potential symptoms are observed.
